Every ALEBRIJEยฎย created by the Linares Dynastyย embodies nearly a century of Mexican history, identity, and creativity.

They are far more than papier-mรขchรฉ sculptures; they are living testaments to a family tradition that has crossed borders, inspired millions of people, and helped establish Mexico's name on the international cultural stage.

The upcoming inauguration of UTOPรA Coyoacรกnย will mark a new chapter in this extraordinary story, reaffirming that the ALEBRIJESยฎย created by the Linares Dynastyย continue to be a source of pride for Mexico City.

To speak of ALEBRIJESยฎย is to speak of one of the most extraordinary symbols of Mexican folk art. Yet behind these fantastic creatures lies a story that goes far beyond imaginationโ€”a story that forms part of Mexico's cultural heritage: the story of the Linares Dynasty, heirs to and guardians of the legacy of Don Pedro Linares Lรณpez, the intellectual creator of the authentic ALEBRIJESยฎ. This artistic tradition was born in the heart of Mexico City and is internationally recognized as one of the country's most representative cultural expressions.

Everything began in 1930, when Don Pedro Linares, after suffering a serious illness, experienced a vision filled with extraordinary beings: impossible animals fused together, each repeating a mysterious word he had never heard beforeโ€”"alebrije."ย That profound experience transformed his life and gave birth to an entirely new artistic expression, marking the beginning of a tradition that, nearly a century later, continues to captivate the world.

For the Linares family, every piece is a one-of-a-kind creation.

As David Linares, a representative of the sixth generation of artisans, explains:

"Everything is made entirely by hand; we shape each piece with our own hands. There are no molds because alebrijes cannot be mass-produced."

Every ALEBRIJEยฎย is born through a unique creative process. No two designs are ever identical, and there is no industrial production. Each figure evolves as the artisan works, allowing imagination, craftsmanship, and generations of family knowledge to bring dreamlike creatures to life.

This deep respect for handcrafted creation has preserved the original essence envisioned by Don Pedro Linares, keeping alive a tradition that remains a defining reference of Mexican folk art.

For decades, the Linares Dynasty has defended the true origin of the ALEBRIJESยฎ, reminding the world that they were created by Don Pedro Linares Lรณpez, a native of the historic La Mercedย neighborhood in Mexico City.

This legacy is not only part of the history of Mexican folk art; it is also recognized as the only traditional craft native to Mexico City, making it a cultural emblem that represents the Mexican capital before the world.

Its significance has been honored through important distinctions. In 1990, Don Pedro Linares received Mexico's National Prize for Sciences and Arts, and in 2019, the Alebrije tradition of the Linares family was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Mexico City, a recognition that confirms its exceptional historical and artistic value.

Since the first international exhibition of Mexican folk art, held in Paris in 1952, ALEBRIJESยฎย began to transcend Mexico's borders, earning worldwide admiration.

Over the decades, these extraordinary creations have become part of museum collections, private collections, and international exhibitions, establishing themselves as one of the greatest icons of contemporary Mexican folk art.

Their international recognition is no coincidence. It is the result of the talent, discipline, passion, and perseverance of six generations of the Linares family, who have dedicated their lives to preserving, refining, and passing on a truly unique artistic tradition.

It is a legacy that has evolved with time without ever losing its essence or authenticityโ€”a living expression of Mexican creativity that proudly represents Mexico before the world and whose cultural significance will continue to inspire future generations.

The Linares Dynastyย is currently working on one of its most emblematic projects in recent years: monumental ALEBRIJESยฎ, created especially for the inauguration of the new UTOPรA El Pariรกnย in the Coyoacรกn boroughโ€”a space designed to become a new landmark for culture, the arts, and community life in Mexico City.

These impressive large-scale sculptures are now in their final stage of detailing before being transported to what will become their permanent home. Every element is carefully reviewed by the Linares family to ensure that each piece is presented at its very best during its official unveiling.

The project was commissioned by the Government of Mexico Cityย and represents far more than an artistic installation. It stands as a tribute to the invaluable legacy of the Linares Dynastyย and to the enduring significance of the authentic ALEBRIJESยฎ, the intellectual creation of Don Pedro Linares Lรณpez, recognized as one of the most representative expressions of the cultural heritage of Mexico City.

The family undertook this project with a clear purpose: to give the public the opportunity to discover the true origin of these extraordinary fantastical creatures and to honor the history of those who, for nearly a century and through six generations, have authentically preserved a tradition that is now admired around the world.

The result of this extraordinary work will be unveiled this Sunday, August 9, during the official inauguration of UTOPรA El Pariรกn, located in Barrio San Lucas, Coyoacรกn. The opening ceremony will begin at 12:00 p.m.ย and will be open to the public, allowing visitors to explore the new facilities and the wide range of cultural, sports, and community programs that this innovative space will offer. At the heart of the celebration will be the monumental ALEBRIJESยฎย created by the Linares Dynasty, destined to become a new symbol of identity for this important cultural complex.

More than the opening of a new public venue, this event represents an opportunity to experience the living legacy of a family that transformed a dream into a universal artistic expression. With the permanent presence of these monumental creations, UTOPรA El Pariรกnย will not only enrich its cultural heritage but also pay tribute to the authentic ALEBRIJESยฎ, born in Mexico City and transformed, through the talent and perseverance of the Linares Dynasty, into an internationally recognized icon of Mexican folk art across all five continents.
